Arsenal transfer news: What Lewandowski has said about Kiwior

Arsenal have officially got one deal over the line today, announcing the arrival of Leandro Trossard.

However, the Gunners may soon make it two, with reports suggesting another player is Emirates-bound.

The player in question is Poland international defender Jakub Kiwior.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal and Spezia signed the documents pertaining to his transfer this afternoon.

Kiwior will fly to London with his agent to complete his medical and sign a five-and-a-half-year contract, he added.

Romano said earlier in the day that Arsenal would be paying in excess of £17.5million for the 22-year-old.

While Trossard to Arsenal was relatively well covered (after the Mykhaylo Mudryk saga, anyway), Kiwior to Arsenal has come out of the blue.

‘Enormous potential’

But while Kiwior may not be a household name in England just yet, there have certainly been some rave reviews about him.

One of those came from Poland legend and Barcelona ace Robert Lewandowski, one of the best strikers in the world.

In September last year, Sempre Milan quoted Lewandowski as saying: “I noticed him [Kiwior] in the warm-up before the game and wondered who he was.

“Then, I saw him in the game and I realised that he is an extraordinary player. He has enormous potential.”

If a world-class striker like Lewandowski is stunned by a player who he previously knew nothing about, this bodes well when it comes to Arsenal fans seeing him for the first time.

Who is Jakub Kiwior?

Kiwior is a 22-year-old, 6ft 2in defender who can play at centre-back, left-back and as a defensive midfielder.

He came through the ranks at Polish club GKS Tichy before linking up with Anderlecht’s academy in 2016.

The Poland ace also played for Slovakian outfits Podbrezove and MSK Zilina before joining Spezia in 2021.

Kiwior has made 43 appearances for the Italian side, including 17 in Serie A this term.

He has also won nine caps for Poland and played at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
