Arsenal transfer news: Arteta an admirer of £55m forward
Mikel Arteta is an admirer of Ferran Torres as Arsenal weigh up a move for the Barcelona starlet in the wake of missing out on Mykhaylo Mudryk, according to a report from The Athletic.
After months of speculation, Mudryk is now a Premier League player. However, it was not the Gunners who broke the bank to secure his signature. And with that, the league leaders are now looking elsewhere.
Reports from Sport Italia claimed that they have made contact over a potential move for Raphinha. But it would seem that he is not the only Barcelona player the Gunners have on their radar.
Arteta an admirer of Ferran Torres
90min reported on Sunday that Arsenal have been in contact with Barca about the former Manchester City star. And The Athletic has now provided a further update.
They note that Arteta himself is a fan of the 22-year-old. However, there is an issue.
The Athletic notes that Torres’ preference would be to stay at Barcelona. He only joined the Catalan giants one year ago. And it appears that he is determined to be a success at Camp Nou.
But there is a need for Barca to bring funds in. So perhaps that may leave the door ever so slightly open for Arsenal.
Torres would be an extremely exciting signing for Arsenal. He has shown glimpses of what he can do with Xavi’s side, scoring five goals this season. The Barca boss has previously suggested that he is ‘spectacular‘.
He is able to play across the forward line, including up front. FBRef meanwhile, names Phil Foden and Christopher Nkunku amongst those who are similar to Torres.
He will not come cheap. Barcelona spent around £55 million to bring him to Catalonia from Manchester City. But if a deal is possible, it could be another really superb piece of business from Arsenal.
