A report from Germany claims that Premier League trio Arsenal, Tottenham and Everton are all in talks to sign Gladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria. The Switzerland star has been strongly linked with the Premier League. Now, he has three clubs in talks – a player Yann Sommer likened to Zinedine Zidane.
Zakaria, 24, joined Gladbach in 2017 from Young Boys and has since gone on to play 128 games for one of the Bundesliga’s most-exciting sides. Featuring in last season’s Champions League, Zakaria also played twice in Switzerland’s five Euro 2020 games – including the win over France.
His form has not gone unnoticed. Indeed, Bild say Arsenal, Everton and Tottenham are all in talks for Zakaria, a player Sommer rates highly. Obviously, Sommer might be somewhat biased given Zakaria a club and country teammate. But to compare Zakaria with Zidane is a big statement.
Speaking in 2018, experienced goalkeeper Sommer told the Bundesliga’s official website: “It’s not easy to compare him [Zakaria] to the greats of the past, but he combines many qualities that have were really defined by Michel Platini and Zinedine Zidane.”

Which club needs Zidane like midfielder, Zakaria – Tottenham, Arsenal or Everton?
Well, Everton do have options in midfield. Allan, Tom Davies, Andre Gomes, Fabian Delph, James Rodriguez, Abdoulaye Doucoure. But are any of them as good as Zakaria? Probably not. But on the flipside, would Zakaria join a side not even in the Conference League? Probably not.
Arsenal are in a similar boat, though they lack the midfield numbers Everton boast. Also, the Gunners are a bigger club – with more pull, finances and chances of qualifying for Europe. But surely, his best move is to join Tottenham who are in the Conference League?
