Report: Arsenal in talks with midfielder who dreams of Liverpool move

According to a report from Fussball Transfers, Arsenal are in talks with midfielder Denis Zakaria over a free transfer move to The Emirates this summer.

Zakaria is hot property on the European market this season. He is yet to sign a new contract with ‘Gladbach and can negotiate terms for a free transfer next month. And according to Fussball Transfers, the Swiss star’s entourage are in talks with the Gunners already.

Arsenal’s interest in Zakaria is nothing brand new, of course. It was only a few weeks ago that we reported on TBR how the Gunners saw themselves at the front of the queue for the midfielder. That report was contrary to suggestions in Italy that it was in fact Liverpool who were close to landing Zakaria.

However, as things stand, it seems it is Arsenal who are frontrunners. The Gunners are thought to be keen on bringing in a defensive midfielder. Zakaria, of course, very much fits the profile for that role.

As reported on TBR this morning, Arsenal are also watching Aston Villa star, Douglas Luiz. However, Villa will be reluctant to sell, meaning Zakaria could be a cheaper and easier option for Mikel Arteta.

TBR’s View: Zakaria On A Free Is Perfect For Arsenal

If Arsenal want themselves a combative midfielder for a bargain, then Denis Zakaria is their man. A bundle of energy in the middle of the park, strong in the tackle, and experienced at international level, the Swiss star is ideal.

Of course, the fact he’s on a free makes it even better. It allows Arsenal more wiggle room in the market and the opportunity to spend big elsewhere if they want.

Given the interest in Zakaria, it would be quite the statement from Arsenal if they can land him ahead of Liverpool and others.
