Report: 'Outstanding' Arsenal player has now rejected £160k-a-week proposal, could go for nothing this summer

Arsenal striker, Alexandre Lacazette, has reportedly turned down a big contract offer from Newcastle United and could now walk away from the Gunners for nothing in the summer as planned.

Lacazette has yet to show any indication of signing a new deal with Arsenal. Despite his excellent form in recent weeks, the Frenchman is still expected to leave in the summer. A January move for Lacazette may have been possible with the right fee and terms, but it seems even that is a non-starter now too.

That’s because according to Tuttomercatoweb, Lacazette has turned down the chance to sign for Newcastle on a deal worth around £160k-a-week (£8m-a-year). Their report claims the French striker didn’t want to sign for the Magpies due to the risk of the club being relegated this season. Once again, it’s the same old story for Newcastle.

TMW claims that the Mags offered Lacazette a three-and-a-half year deal. That, coupled with Lacazette’s reason for not going, means it was set up to be a deal done this month. Alas, though, it seems Eddie Howe and PIF must go back to the drawing board once again.

Lacazette, now 30, has done well this season. Earlier in the campaign, Sky’s Jamie Carragher was one of those to be impressed with the striker. He labelled Lacazette’s performance against Aston Villa as ‘outstanding’.

TBR’s View: Arsenal Losing Lacazette For Nothing Seems Bizarre

There was a time when Lacazette leaving seemed best for everyone. But now, with his form having picked up and Aubameyang having a nightmare, it makes more sense for Arsenal to keep the Frenchman.

Certainly, they’ll have a job finding someone to replace him for a decent fee. Lacazette has stepped up of late and as captain, has really adapted well.

You can’t help but admire Newcastle’s cheeky bid either. But for Arsenal, this is one they need to get resolved.
