Arsenal reportedly want player Marc Overmars said offers versatility in 2019

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Ajax defender Noussair Mazraoui this summer. The right-back is about to enter the last 12 months of his contract at Dutch title-winners Ajax – a player that Marc Overmars claimed can play in numerous different positions two years ago.

Mazraoui, 23, has been excellent for Ajax over the last couple of seasons. Breaking into Ajax’s senior side, Morocco international Mazraoui has clocked up 102 appearances in all competitions. He is not particularly attacking, but is defensively solid – and a regular in an excellent Ajax team.

Spanish publication Estadio Deportivo report that Hector Bellerin could be about to join Real Betis this summer. As a replacement for Bellerin, Mazraoui is a target for the Gunners. Lille’s Turkey international Zeki Celik is also said to be on Arsenal’s radar. But Mazraoui will be cheap.

The report says that Ajax want just £8.5million for his signature. They rate him at £14.5million, but due to his contractual situation, he will be available for £6million less. Bayern are also keen, but Overmars’ recent comments will surely convince Arsenal over a move.

“Noussair is only 21 and can play in several positions,” Overmars told the Ajax website in 2019. “We’ve had good discussions about his future with his agent Mustapha Nakhli. Naturally he could go abroad, but it’s great that they both feel that a longer stay at Ajax would be best for ‘Nous’.”

Mazraoui a bargain, Arsenal simply have to take advantage – following Overmars verdict

Arsenal need a right-back. As the report states, Bellerin could leave this summer. The Spain international has endured another indifferent season with Arsenal and it appears the Gunners are ready to cash in. Selling him, and bringing in Mazraoui, would be stunning business.

Bellerin could bring in a fee closer to £20million. So, if Arsenal can sell him for at least double the £8.5million it would take to sign Mazraoui, then it is good business. A move that should be a no-brainer for the Gunners.
