Report: Arsenal actually only signed 'exceptional' player this summer thanks to Edu
Arsenal signed Marquinhos this summer to add to the number of high-profile, big-money signings they made over the course of the summer.
The talented Brazilian was brought into the club to add to the growing number of top young players currently plying their trade in the red half of North London. Since arriving, Marquinhos has impressed, and he’s even said to have changed Mikel Arteta’s initial plans for him in doing so.
However, while the winger continues to make strides at London Colney, things might have been completely different for all parties.
That’s because according to 90Min, Wolves were actually thought to be keen on signing Marquinhos. And given how they’ve managed to attract players in recent windows, a move to Molineux wouldn’t have been a big surprise.
However, 90Min reports how an intervention from Arsenal supremo, Edu, ensured Marquinhos ended up in North London. It’s believed Edu’s relationship and contacts in Brazil, specifically with Sao Paulo, ensured that there was only ever going to be one club for the young winger.
TBR’s View: Edu Influence Helping Arsenal
There is no doubt that Arsenal are seeing the benefits of having the Brazilian leading their transfer charge. The likes of Martinelli and others have come into the club to big success, and Marquinhos looks like being the next one.
His performance in Europe in midweek showed everyone a glimpse of what he is all about and if he can keep developing and producing like he did against Zurich, then Arsenal and Edu will be delighted.
