Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are ahead of Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea in the race for Ivan Toney.

That is according to The Sun, which has noted a major hurdle that Arsenal are facing in their quest to bring Toney to the Emirates Stadium in the January transfer window.

So, what is being reported about Arsenal and Brentford striker Ivan Toney? Let’s take a look.

What’s the story?

Well, according to The Sun, Arsenal and Chelsea are interested in signing Ivan Toney from Brentford in the January transfer window.

The report in the British tabloid has claimed that Arsenal are “at the front of the queue” for the services of Toney, who is one of the best strikers in the Premier League.

Former Arsenal prospect Jay Bothroyd rates Toney highly and said on Sky Sports in September: “He scores goals, he is prolific, he is strong, he leads the line really well.

“If you put him in any of the big teams, he is going to score at least 20 Premier League goals a season. Great on penalties. I would love Arsenal to sign him.”

Arsenal legend Sol Campbell rates Toney highly as well and wants the Gunners to sign him.

However, Arsenal are facing an issue. According to The Sun, Toney is “torn over his future”.

While the striker wants to move on, he also has a sense of gratitude to Brentford for standing by him as he serves his ban. Toney will be available to play only in January.

Arsenal could be able to sign Ivan Toney from Brentford in January

In my opinion, Arsenal could be able to sign Ivan Toney from Brentford in the January transfer window.

There is speculation that Brentford are willing to sell Toney in the middle of the season for £80 million.

So, if Arsenal are ready to cough up £80 million for the England international striker, then the North London club could be able to bring him to the Emirates Stadium. Tottenham Hotspur have already decided against paying the asking price.

The big question is whether the Gunners would be willing to spend that kind of money on a striker who does not have experience playing for an elite club or in the UEFA Champions League.

Yes, Arsenal need a prolific striker to win the Premier League title this season, but the Gunners need think about the future as well.
