Arsenal not ruling out move to sign ‘world class’ Chelsea star who Arsene Wenger was once told to apologise to

Arsenal have gotten off to the perfect start in the Premier League as they aim to go one better this season, with two successive 2-0 wins.

After missing out on the title last season by small margins, Mikel Arteta has already added one fresh face to the fold in the form of Riccardo Calafiori, who has already wowed Ben White in training.

The permanent signing of David Raya has also been made and it’s already paying dividends, as Troy Deeney labeled Raya as the reason Arsenal defeated Aston Villa.

However, with Eddie Nketiah set to join Crystal Palace there may be an opportunity to bring in a replacement to spruce up Arsenal’s attacking reinforcements before the window closes.

Interestingly, Sami Mokbel is yet to rule Arsenal out of the race for one attacker in particular…

Arsenal fully ‘aware’ of Raheem Sterling’s transfer situation at Chelsea

Raheem Sterling is attracting interest from the likes of Aston Villa and Crystal Palace, as well as other clubs, as he seeks a move away from Stamford Bridge.

And, whilst Arsenal haven’t been registered with an interest in the attacker, The Daily Mail state that they’re fully aware of his situation and it remains to be seen if the Gunners will change their stance ahead of the deadline.

Juventus are also listed as taking an interest in Raheem Sterling, while Manchester United could be involved in a potential swap deal with Jadon Sancho.

All of this comes after Sterling’s PR team put out a statement prior to the Blues’ opening day fixture against Manchester City, with Jamie Carragher one of the first to criticise the ‘ridiculous’ statement.

What’s Raheem Sterling’s history with Arsenal?

Chelsea’s wantaway man has a pretty good record against Arsenal which has seen him play 21 times against the Gunners, losing just six games and winning 11 in the process.

He scored eight goals and assisted once during that time, with Gunners fans possibly remembering his brace from the 5-1 hammering at the hands of Liverpool.

Interestingly, former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was urged to apologise by Alan Shearer for his accusations towards Sterling back in 2017. Wenger claimed that the then Manchester City attacker dived for a penalty which put Manchester City 2-0 up on the day against the Gunners.

Mikel Arteta actually grew to really like the ‘world class’ attacker from their time together at Manchester City, so we could see a late U-turn by Arsenal should they deem a move necessary.

Afterall, Nketiah’s departure would leave the Gunners with just Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz up top.
