Raheem Sterling is a major talking point this afternoon after he and his ‘team’ released a statement ahead of Manchester City’s visit to Chelsea.
Sterling was left out of the squad completely despite being involved throughout pre-season in Enzo Maresca’s squads and first XI’s.
The former Liverpool man was hoping to play a big part under Maresca but now, it looks like his future is already in doubt.
What Raheem Sterling said about being left out of Chelsea v Man City
In a statement made public, Sterling’s PR team released the following words.
“Raheem Sterling is contracted to Chelsea Football Club for the next three years. He returned to England two weeks early to conduct individual training, and has had a positive pre-season under the new coach, who he has developed a good working relationship with.
“He is committed, as ever, to delivering at the highest level for Chelsea FC and the fans, who he holds in high regard, and given his inclusion in official club pre-match material this week, our expectation was that Raheem would be involved in this weekend’s fixture in some capacity.

“As a camp, we have always had positive dialogue with, and assurance from, Chelsea FC in relation to Raheem’s future at the club, so we look forward to gaining clarity on the situation. Until then, we will continue to support Raheem’s desire to start the new season positively.”
Jamie Carragher unimpressed with Raheem Sterling
As always in football, these sorts of thing cause a massive talking point and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has had his say.
And predictably, Carragher is not too impressed, with both Sterling and Chelsea in general.
The reaction from Carragher is not surprising at all really.
Last season, the former Liverpool defender was one of the most outspoken pundits when it came to clubs releasing statements to complain about referees and the PGMOL in general.
Sterling, then, appears to have done himself no favours here and it will be interesting where this goes.
Enzo Maresca said before the game that he simply had to make tough decisions and sometimes, players don’t like them.
Darren Bent has urged Arsenal to sign Sterling if they can, while Chelsea were apparently willing to offer Sterling as part of a deal for Michael Olise earlier in the summer.
