Arsenal must use Hector Bellerin in Kieran Trippier bid amid reports

Arsenal appear to have stepped up their pursuit of a right-back this summer with The Sun reporting that they have made contact with Atletico Madrid over Kieran Trippier.

The Gunners have been linked with a new addition in that area of the field for much of the window.

However, the news that Arsenal want Trippier has not gone down particularly well with a lot of the supporters.

Obviously, Trippier is a former Spurs player. But he is also 30. And Atletico reportedly want £34 million for him.

Nevertheless, Arsenal seem to be pressing ahead. Contact has reportedly been made as they look at signing the England international.

It is hard to imagine the Gunners meeting the full asking price. They surely have much greater priorities.

But they may have an ace up their sleeve. And that involves Hector Bellerin.

Of course, Arsenal are surely unlikely to sign a new right-back if Bellerin stays. But he is reportedly keen to leave.

And one of the sides keen on the Spaniard, as it turns out, is Atletico. Marca reported last month that Diego Simeone could target a move for the 26-year-old if Trippier leaves.

With that in mind, it may be in both clubs’ best interests to discuss a swap deal.

Agreeing a move will not be straightforward. But it does seem to make a lot of sense considering the links.
