Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are now actively trying to sign Marcos Leonardo.

That is according to Football Transfers, which has noted a link between the Brazilian striker and Manchester City star Erling Haaland.

So, what has been reported about Arsenal and Marcos Leonardo? Let’s take a look.

Arsenal in talks with the agent of Marcos Leonardo

Well, according to Football Transfers, Arsenal want to sign Marcos Leonardo from Santos in the January transfer window.

The report has claimed that Arsenal have “stepped up their pursuit” of Leonardo and have “intensified their interest” in him.

“Talks have been held with Rafaela Pimenta, who is representing Marcos Leonardo in a bid to bring the player to Europe during the January transfer window”, according to Football Transfers, which has noted that the Brazilian agent also represents Manchester City and Norway international striker Erling Haaland.

Arsenal reportedly hope to get a deal done for Leonardo for a transfer fee of around €15-20 million (£12.88-£17.18 million).

Real Madrid have been linked with the 20-year-old Brazilian striker as well. Newcastle United and Chelsea are also reportedly keen.

Arsenal should bid for Leonardo

In my view, if Arsenal are convinced that Marcos Leonardo will be a success for the North London club, then they should make a bid for him in the January transfer window.

Although Leonardo is only 20 now, he does have potential and has experience of playing regular first-team football. And a transfer fee of around £17 million is not much for a wealthy club like Arsenal.

Leonardo scored 13 goals and gave two assists in 30 starts and one substitute appearance in the 2023 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A. Santos got relegated.

Arsenal are aiming to win the Premier League title this season and perhaps could even end up going deep in the UEFA Champions League.
