Arsenal have scouted Villarreal's Yeremy Pino - journalist

Journalist Ryan Taylor has told Give Me Sport that Arsenal have scouted Yeremy Pino as they consider alternative targets after missing out on Mykhaylo Mudryk in the January transfer window.

The Gunners remain on the lookout for a new forward this month. For some time, it seemed almost inevitable that Mudryk would fill that void. However, he has now moved elsewhere.

There has been no shortage of names in the frame since then. Sport Italia reported shortly after Mudryk’s move to Chelsea looked imminent that contact had been made over a deal for Raphinha.

Meanwhile, Sky Germany have claimed this week that Arsenal are admirers of Moussa Diaby. And Taylor has now thrown out another name into the mix.

Yeremy has not been outstanding for Villarreal this term, scoring just twice in La Liga. And Taylor suggested that he has his doubts over whether he will be allowed to move this month.

But he did note that Arsenal are admirers.

“There are other names as well that I would expect to enter the fray. Yeremy Pino’s a player that’s been scouted,” he told Give Me Sport.

“What I would say about him is, although he’s a player with very high potential, he hasn’t quite performed to the heights that he did last season.

“And also, with Danjuma set to depart Villarreal, I don’t think they would really be keen to lose both of those players, despite the encouragement towards (Arnaut) Danjuma to look at other options.”

Good opportunity for Gunners to make move?

Yeremy would tick a lot of boxes for Mikel Arteta. He can play across the forward line. And given that he is only 20 years of age, he has the time to improve considerably.

The Spain international has been labelled a ‘remarkable‘ talent in the past. And Fabrizio Romano suggested over the summer that he would cost around £42 million. So he would be a fair amount cheaper than a number of their other targets.

He is someone who likes to get onto the ball. And he is brave in possession. He also has the ability to make opponents look quite silly.

And you would imagine that Arsenal making a move would give him a real boost of confidence after a less spectacular season.

It is certainly not always sound logic, but making a bid when a player is struggling can represent a smart way to land a very talented prospect at a much more reasonable price.
