Arsenal have discussed signing another surprise striker other than Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres

There could be a new twist in the Arsenal striker saga.

The Gunners are expected to bring in a new number nine in this summer’s transfer window. They haven’t signed a single centre-forward since Gabriel Jesus in 2022, and that has cost them.

A new man up top is an absolute priority in this window, and the two strikers heavily linked with Arsenal are Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko.

However, a surprise name has also been discussed by the decision makers at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal have discussed signing Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea

Arsenal are making it a habit to sign players from Chelsea.

The Gunners have brought in Willian, Kai Havertz and Jorginho from Stamford Bridge, while Kepa Arrizabalaga is about to join Arsenal as well.

Mikel Arteta has also shown interest in Noni Madueke as a potential backup option to Bukayo Saka on the right wing.

Now, in what is news that Arsenal fans will definitely not like, Duncan Castles has claimed that Nicolas Jackson’s name came up when he was enquiring about strikers they are looking at.

He said on The Transfers Podcast: “There’s one more name that I’ve become aware of this week, which may come as a surprise, which is Nicolas Jackson, the striker who’s had an interesting time in his two years at Chelsea.

“Chelsea have always been looking for either adding someone else in that position or replacing him totally. Chelsea say they’re not actively looking to sell Jackson in this window, but he’s not one of the untouchable figures within their squad.

“The guidance I have on where Arsenal are on this is that this broad range of options is deliberate. They want to ensure that they get a centre-forward for Arteta in this window and don’t feel like they did last summer.

“They will do one of these deals. They’re telling the representatives of the players involved that what it will come down to is the deal that they believe makes the best sense to the club.”

Nicolas Jackson’s stats at Chelsea compared to Kai Havertz’s at Arsenal

Arsenal’s main striker over the last two seasons has been Kai Havertz, even though the German is not naturally a centre-forward.

Jackson joined Chelsea in the same summer that Havertz left them, so how do their stats compare against each other over the last two years?

As the table shows above, Jackson and Havertz’s numbers are not too far apart since they joined Chelsea and Arsenal respectively.

The North Londoners need someone who will guarantee 25 or 30 goals a season in all competitions if they want to go to the next level — Jackson is just not that player.
