Manchester United and Newcastle’s move for Benjamin Sesko is becoming increasingly tricky.
Arsenal had been after Sesko earlier this summer but instead opted to finalise a deal to sign Viktor Gyokeres.
Andrea Berta drove Arsenal’s pursuit of Gyokeres, despite plenty at the North London club keen to sign Sesko.
Manchester United and Newcastle are now looking to bring the Slovenian international, but are starting to encounter the key issues which the Gunners also faced.

Arsenal fans pleased Andrea Berta backed away from Benjamin Sesko deal
Arsenal fans are starting to realise why Berta backed away from signing Benjamin Sesko after Newcastle’s latest bid was rejected.
Newcastle saw a £70m bid rejected for Sesko by RB Leipzig, who are holding out with £74m, as revealed by TBR Football.
Newcastle were confident £70m would get Sesko, but the Bundesliga club have now started to move the goalposts, and the costs of the deal are continuing to rise.
Arsenal signed Gyokeres for £64m, and whilst Sporting CP proved tricky to negotiate with, Leipzig are really trying to delay the sale of Sesko.
Arsenal walked away from the Sesko deal as they believed that Leipzig
The Gunners supporters have now taken to X to express their relief that the club insisted on signing Gyokeres over the Slovenian striker.
One fan said: “Newcastle and Man United are now discovering why Arsenal walked away from signing Sesko. Leipzig and his agent are living in dreamland. Good luck, guys.”
“How do you deem €80m to be insufficient? No wonder Arsenal left their pursuit. Leipzig and Sesko are living on a different planet,” claimed another Arsenal fan.
There was further relief expressed by Arsenal fans that they moved on from Sesko: “With each passing day, I’m grateful we pulled out of these ridiculous transfer negotiations. Now Newcastle and Man United can watch as Sesko won’t even pressure Leipzig.”
Finally, another supporter said: “Every passing day, I’m glad Berta made sure Viktor Gyokeres is Arsenal’s new striker. What drama Sesko’s agent and RB Leipzig are causing.”
TBR Football understands that Arsenal players and coaches have been amazed by Gyokeres during the Gunners’ training sessions.
Sesko certainly has an exciting amount of potential, but given how much Leipzig wants, signing a ready-made option for less looks the smarter move.
Viktor Gyokeres outshone Benjamin Sesko in the Champions League
Gyokeres and Sesko both already have plenty of experience playing in the Champions League, having taken part in last season’s competition.
The Swede ended up outscoring the Leipzig striker as he netted six goals in eight matches, including a hat-trick against Man City.
| Stat | Viktor Gyokeres | Benjamin Sesko |
| Games | 8 | 8 |
| Goals | 6 | 4 |
| Assists | 1 | 0 |
| Shots | 19 | 15 |
| Shots on target | 11 | 9 |
| Chances created | 16 | 3 |
| Passes Completed | 115 | 72 |
But just generally, Gyokeres proved he is far more ready to make an impact now compared to the 22-year-old.
The former Sporting striker scored more, had more shots, more on target, created more chances and completed more passes.
