A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to react after the club posted their official team photo for this season – with many picking up on what seems to be a clear clue that Granit Xhaka has been named vice-captain.
Xhaka’s turbulent time at the Emirates took a few more twists this summer. At the end of last season, it appeared inevitable that he would be leaving.

It was even claimed while the Swiss was shining at Euro 2020 that he had agreed personal terms with Roma.
However, the move subsequently fell through. But rather than look to offload Xhaka elsewhere, Arsenal then decided to hand him a new contract.
It was a move that comes with an upside. Xhaka’s value is protected. But understandably, it did not go down well with everyone.

And another divisive decision appears to have been made.
Arsenal unveiled their new team photo for this season. And unsurprisingly, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is sat next to Mikel Arteta in the front row.
But on the other side is Xhaka. And with vice-captain Hector Bellerin out on loan, it would appear that the 28-year-old has now been promoted.
Of course, Xhaka has previously been captain. But the armband was taken off him after his infamous reaction as he was subbed off against Crystal Palace in 2019.

And he has continued to come in for criticism at various stages. He was sent off against Manchester City before the international break.
The hint that Xhaka is now vice-captain has divided opinion. Some believe it is a smart move. Others however, seem incredibly perplexed…
