Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez has reportedly emerged as a target for Tottenham Hotspur – and Arsenal fans have responded on Twitter.
Martinez, 29, left Arsenal after just 38 appearances spanning across a decade with the Gunners – to join Aston Villa in the summer of 2020.
That decision has since been criticised by Arsenal fans and pundits, including the likes of David Seaman. His Villa form has been excellent.
In a Villa shirt, Martinez has kept 18 clean sheets in 46 league and cup outings – conceding just 58 goals. He is also Argentina’s number one.
Now with 12 senior caps under his belt for Argentina, Martinez was crucial in helping his country beat Brazil to win the Copa America in the summer.
Martinez’s stock is high. Tottenham, meanwhile, need a replacement for captain Hugo Lloris – who looks set to leave next summer, on a free.
The World Cup winner’s contract expires in June. According to The Independent, Martinez is one name on a four-man goalkeeper shortlist.
Real Sociedad’s Alex Remiro and Napoli’s Alex Meret are options, as is West Brom’s Sam Johnstone. But £20m (Independent) signing Martinez is top.

What are Arsenal fans saying about Tottenham eyeing Villa’s Martinez?
Clearly, many are still aggrieved at the sale of Martinez. That is largely because they chose to keep Bernd Leno, who has since struggled.
It saw Arsenal pay over the odds to sign Aaron Ramsdale in the summer, as a replacement for Leno. Ideally, keeping Martinez would have been better.
Upon hearing the news that Tottenham want to sign Martinez from Villa, Arsenal fans had their say. Some are worried, while some laughed it off.
