According to the Independent, Tottenham are looking into the possibility of bringing in Aston Villa goalkeeper, Emi Martinez, as a replacement for Hugo Lloris.
The Argentinian shot stopper is one of the hottest properties in the world in terms of goalkeeper. It comes after his fine form for Villa, as well as some excellent performances for Argentina which drew the praise of a certain Lionel Messi.
Martinez moved to Aston Villa in the summer of 2020 for around £17m. He’s since become one of the Premier League’s top stoppers, and has made a habit of becoming a penalty saving expert.

The Independent reports that while Spurs accept a deal for Martinez would be hard to do, they have sounded him out as a potential replacement for Lloris. The Argentinian is on a list, along with England stopper, Sam Johnstone.
Lloris is now 34 and has already hinted that his career might lie away from Tottenham eventually. Spurs, naturally, are looking for longer-term solutions.
TBR’s View: Emi Martinez brilliant but surely Tottenham can’t pull this one off
Tottenham will have a number of ‘keepers on their list as the report here states. But Martinez might well be a bit of a reach too far.
He is brilliant at Villa and well loved as well. Further, the Villans don’t need to sell, given their wealth and success off the field.
Of course, Daniel Levy won’t be deterred often. And with Fabio Paratici on the books now, there is a belief at the club that they can bring in certain players with more ease. The summer proved that the club is still an attractive proposition.
But for Emi Martinez, he’d have to question whether Tottenham is a step up from Villa or not. Normally, you’d say Spurs were. But in recent times, Villa have been doing well themselves. Certainly, the ‘keeper would face a big choice here.
