Arsenal fans react as Leeds reportedly close in on Barcelona ace Junior Firpo
Leeds are reportedly closing in on a move to sign Barcelona star Junior Firpo. Reports from Spain claim that Leeds have agreed a £13million fee, and convinced Firpo to join over AC Milan. Firpo has been a target for Arsenal, and Gunners fans have reacted to his reportedly close Leeds move.
Firpo, 24, has struggled to get regular game time at Barcelona. Spending the last two seasons as Jordi Alba’s back-up at left-back, Firpo only played 18 times under Ronald Koeman during 2020-21. He has three years remaining on his contract at the Nou Camp – but a move is now expected.
SPORT reported on Monday that Leeds had reached an agreement with Barcelona for a £13million deal to sign Firpo. Not only that, but they have also convinced the player to forget about a move to AC Milan. It is believed that a move to Milan would have initially been a loan deal.
What are Arsenal fans saying about Leeds signing Firpo?
Firpo is a name well-known by Arsenal fans. Back in February, Fabrizio Romano claimed in his Here We Go podcast that Arsenal wanted to sign the left-back. Arsenal still require a left-back as cover for Kieran Tierney with Sead Kolasinac likely to go. A right-back could also be required.
Firpo is more than capable at switching flanks – and with Hector Bellerin likely to go, he would have been ideal. Arsenal fans responded on Twitter to reports that Leeds are closing in on a deal for Firpo and many believe he will be a fantastic signing, while others are jealous.
