Report: Leeds set to complete £12.9m signing, announcement expected between 24 and 48 hours
Spanish newspaper SPORT have claimed that Leeds United are to complete the signing of Barcelona left-back Junior Firpo. Initial reports about Leeds wanting to sign the defender only emerged over the weekend. Now, SPORT claim that Leeds will announce Firpo between the next 24-48 hours.
Firpo, 24, is looking to leave and Barcelona are keen to sanction his exit in order to raise funds for new players. The Catalan giants are in a tricky financial situation, as are many clubs after the pandemic. It means they are looking to axe numerous players to balance the books and Firpo is one.
Leeds are ready to take advantage. Numerous Premier League clubs have been linked, as have AC Milan. But Leeds have moved quickly to agree a fee of £12.9million. Firpo wanted Milan, but has been tempted by Leeds. A deal is likely to be completed in the next 48 hours. Firpo is on his way to Leeds.
Firpo move is brilliant Leeds business
The interest in Firpo has been rife. Along with Milan, the report states that Barcelona have received many proposals from the Premier League. It is claimed that while they have been satisfactory from Barca’s point of view, the player has rejected it. However, Leeds have now convinced Firpo.
At a fee of less than £13million, Firpo is a bargain. While he is second choice to Alba, he has still played 41 times for Barcelona over the last two seasons. It looks as if he finally ends the search for a new left-back at Elland Road, with Gjanni Alioski’s contract about to expire this summer.
