Arsenal fans gutted they didn't move for £14m striker who's been compared to Bergkamp
A number of Arsenal fans are baffled as to why the Gunners didn’t make a move for Odsonne Edouard in the transfer window.
Arsenal were linked with the 23-year-old striker earlier this year.
The Telegraph reported in April that the Gunners were set to compete for Edouard alongside Leicester and some top European clubs.
However, speculation linking Arsenal and the then-Celtic talisman dried up going into the summer.
As deadline day edged closer, the Gunners were reportedly in discussions with Crystal Palace over Eddie Nketiah.
However, negotiations failed and, as The Athletic reported, the Eagles then turned their attention to Edouard.
In the end, Palace ended up signing the France Under-21 star for a reported £14million.
Patrick Vieira now has a fearsome front line at his disposal, featuring Edouard plus the likes of Wilfried Zaha, Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise.
And some Arsenal fans are gutted they didn’t sign Edouard themselves:
Livid I’ll be honest I wanted Edouard too think he can become the complete striker— FPLTrulyJ (@Joshua90838208) August 30, 2021
Why couldn’t we have sold Eddie to Palace and signed Edouard ourselves ffs. https://t.co/xjMbiKbIGJ— 🇮🇪 (@AFC_KT3) August 31, 2021
Edouard could be an absolute steal for palace. Wanted him to replace Laca for the last couple of years.— Darren Ross (@DeejAFC) August 31, 2021
He was my ideal replacement if Lacazette had left this window..we should try for Jimenez next summer from wolves— Julius Kamwathi (@julius_kamwathi) August 31, 2021

Edouard “can do all the things that Bergkamp could do”
Edouard boasts an impressive CV and goalscoring tally from his time at Celtic.
He registered 86 goals and 39 goals in 179 competitive appearances in green-and-white.
Edouard also won nine trophies during his time in Glasgow – three Scottish Premiership titles, three Scottish Cups and three League Cups.
Gordon Strachan compared him to Dennis Bergkamp back in February 2020, after helping Celtic to a 4-0 win over Motherwell.
“He reminds me of Bergkamp,” he told BT Sports, as quoted by The Scottish Sun.
“He can do all the things that Bergkamp could do at probably a younger age.”
