Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Albert Sambi Lokonga from Anderlecht, ending weeks of speculation. The club confirmed the deal on their official website on Monday afternoon.

The 21-year-old is a central midfielder and has been with the Belgian side since joining them from local football at the age of 15.

In November 2017 he was handed a professional contract and made his debut for the club’s senior ranks one month later.

Lokonga arrived at Arsenal having been a regular for Anderlecht during the last two years. In total he has made 78 appearances, largely operating in the centre of midfield.

Back in March, the youngster was called up to the Belgium squad for the first time. Lokonga was an unused substitute during a game against Greece.

Mikel Arteta has made no secret of his desire to bolster his midfield ranks. Granit Xhaka looks like leaving, whilst Dani Ceballos has returned to Real Madrid.

That leaves Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny, with Lokonga now adding to the midfield engine room.

Arsenal fans excited by Lokonga signing

It’s fair to say that Lokonga fits the profile of an Arsenal signing. He is young, has bags of ability and has arrived as a relatively unknown quantity.

Arteta will look for some proven additions this summer as well, although this does still look like an exciting addition.

It will be interesting to see what role he does play at the club and he’ll be keen to quickly establish himself in the first team.

Supporters certainly seem happy to get the deal over the line and they think he could prove to be a bit of a bargain signing.

Following the announcement, supporters took to Twitter and it seems as though the majority are satisfied. Here is what they had to say.
