Arsenal fans discuss Ousmane Dembele reports as Aubameyang swap’s mooted

A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to react to reports claiming that Barcelona wanting Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has led to a swap deal idea involving Ousmane Dembele being floated.

Aubameyang is now facing an uncertain future at the Emirates. He has been stripped of the captaincy and it was confirmed that he will play no part in Wednesday’s clash with West Ham.

Obviously, there is a big problem Arsenal face should they look to offload the 32-year-old. The Independent reports that he is on at least £230,000-a-week in North London.

He does have admirers. The Gabon international is reportedly wanted by Barcelona. They want a striker in January. However, his wages could prove prohibitive. It is suggested that Aubameyang is not willing to take a pay-cut to leave Arsenal.

With that in mind, Barca are looking at potential ways to engineer a deal. And interestingly, the report claims that intermediaries have floated the idea of Dembele moving in the opposite direction.

Dembele is on £200,000-a-week at the Nou Camp. So clearly, moving him on would free up a significant amount of space on the wage bill.

Unsurprisingly, the reports have prompted a lot of reaction on social media. Dembele was considered one of the most exciting talents in Europe. He was devastating with Borussia Dortmund. He scored 10 goals and contributed 22 assists in Germany.

However, he has had a largely torrid time with Barcelona. Injuries have plagued his spell in Catalonia. And with that, plenty of supporters have their doubts.

On the other hand, several have urged Arsenal to take the gamble. It is hard to see Aubameyang returning to his previous level with the Gunners.

Dembele meanwhile, is still only 24 years of age. So there is still time for the Frenchman to turn his career around. And thus, some Arsenal fans have given a swap their backing.
