Arsenal predicted lineup vs Norwich: £15.5m star replaced
Arsenal will be hoping to secure their fifth win in a row when they face Norwich City at Carrow Road on Boxing Day.
Mikel Arteta’s men were superb in the build-up to Christmas, scoring 14 goals in four. Those results leave them in the Premier League’s top four, and in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup.
Some of the football that they played in that run has been outstanding. And with that, it would be no surprise if Mikel Arteta limited the number of changes from the Gunners side that beat Leeds 4-1.
That means that there is no place for the likes of Nicolas Pepe and Eddie Nketiah, who were superb against Sunderland in the Carabao Cup quarter-final this week.
And of course, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang remains on the sidelines.
There is one injury concern for Arsenal. Takehiro Tomiyasu came off during the win at Elland Road. And unfortunately, Arteta was left unsure of how long the Japan international would be absent for.
Tomiyasu has been superb since his £15.5 million move to the Emirates. So it is a blow.
In his absence, Arteta may well pick Cedric Soares. Some of the Portuguese’s crossing against Sunderland was brilliant. However, perhaps there is another option the Arsenal boss may consider.
Nuno Tavares made a bright start to life at Arsenal. He even kept Kieran Tierney out of the side at one stage.
It is easy to forget now that Tavares’ first appearance for Arsenal came at right-back as he came on in the opening day defeat to Brentford.
Norwich vs Arsenal: Nuno Tavares to replace Takehiro Tomiyasu in lineup?
It is not an ideal situation. But Arsenal will not need to be at their best defensively to keep the Canaries quiet. And given the threat Tavares offers going forward, it may prove to be an exciting move.
There is also an argument that Emile Smith Rowe should start. But dropping any of the front four right now would be extremely harsh.
So with that, here is a look at our predicted lineup for Arsenal’s clash with Norwich…
