Arsenal fans are all making the same point about Noni Madueke after his debut amid Mikel Arteta admission

A number of Arsenal fans have all been making the same point about Noni Madueke after his Gunners debut in the friendly loss to Villarreal.

Madueke joined Arsenal for around £52million from Chelsea in July, the England international penning a five-year contract at the Emirates Stadium.

Madueke began Wednesday’s match with Villarreal on the bench and made his bow in the 77th minute of the game at the Emirates.

Although the vast majority of Madueke’s appearances over the course of his career have come on the right wing, he was deployed on the left flank on Wednesday.

Arsenal fans don’t want Noni Madueke on the left wing

Noni Madueke gave a decent account of himself in what little time he had on his Arsenal debut – post-match penalty shootout miss aside.

However, the general consensus among fans was that, while he wasn’t bad, he shouldn’t be the starting left-winger.

And when Mikel Arteta said after the game that he plans to use Madueke on both sides, Gunners fans were not especially impressed.

“If Arteta’s plan is to use Madueke as a LW, then he bought the wrong player,” one fan wrote on X.

Another supporter said: “Noni Madueke at LW is going to be so disappointing.

“The guy can’t take more than five touches with his right foot, can’t create an advantage for himself and try moving centrally since he can’t use his right foot.”

The criticism kept coming, with one fan saying: “For a serious team who wants to win the league after more than 20 years… having Martinelli and also Madueke at LW shows how unserious we are.”

Another said: “15 minutes ..not much to say but I like his directness and eye for goal.

“Martinelli would try to walk it in, Noni is taking chances – I can get on board with this.

“Next I wanna see him on the RW to see what’s what.”

Another said: “He’s a good player – let him play on the right wing.”

How Tottenham could now derail Arsenal’s plans for a new left-winger

Arsenal have been linked with a number of left-wingers this summer.

Rafael Leao is wanted by Arsenal, though his price tag may be prohibitive, and Rodrygo has also been linked with Arsenal.

Fellow Arsenal target Eberechi Eze has mostly played as a No. 10, but he can also feature on the left flank.

However, with Son Heung-min having now left Tottenham for LAFC, this could mean many of Arsenal’s left-wing targets could now be sought after by Spurs.

The North Londoners, who already locked horns in pre-season, could now be set for a fierce battle in the transfer window before clashing on the pitch in 2025/26.
