‘He loves it at Arsenal’: Journalist suggests Gunners fringe player is going nowhere this summer

Arsenal defender Cedric Soares is likely to stay put this summer despite not being a first-team regular at the club, according to respected Gunners and Goal journalist, Charles Watts.

Cedric has been in and out of proceedings this season but has been an important squad member thanks to the injury Takehiro Tomiyasu suffered. The ‘fantastic‘ right-back has never let Arteta down, and has indeed played more often than he might expect.

And speaking on his YouTube channel yesterday, Watts got onto the subject of Cedric. And while there has been talk of Arsenal bringing in new faces and squad players like Cedric being moved on, Watts believes it’s more likely he stays put than leaves.

“It kind of depends on him. He has a nice contract. Will he decide he wants to go and play more regularly? I mean, people I know who are close to Cedric say he loves it at Arsenal and he’s very very happy,” Watts said.

“There’s been chances for him to go before now and he’s chosen to stay. He’s behind Tomiyasu at the moment and playing well. And it’s really a case of if he wants to go or not.”

Cedric was linked with a move away last month when reports suggested he was ready to move on. This, then, would represent a swift change of heart.

TBR’s View: Cedric Should Stay With Arsenal

It feels like the fact Cedric is playing has seen the Portuguese star change his mind. And to be fair to him, he is an important squad player at Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta has made no secret of the love he has for the players who come in and out of his team at times. Cedric is one of those, and he hasn’t let the Spaniard down once yet.

It would be no surprise for Arteta to want to keep Cedric. And Arsenal fans, too, probably won’t mind him staying put.
