Report: £34m Arsenal player could be given brand new role for second half of season
Jesus’ injury over in Qatar has rocked the Gunners. The Brazilian striker has undergone surgery on a knee injury and is expected to miss a few months at least. The former Man City man has been instrumental in turning things around for Arsenal.
However, the Gunners must now find another way with Jesus out injured. There have been reports of Arsenal looking to sign a new striker. Dusan Vlahovic has been mentioned, while a host of others have been linked too.
Vieira has yet to really make his mark on the Arsenal first-team XI as yet. He has featured and done well in Europe, but in terms of the Premier League, he is a bench player right now.
However, he has played more advanced before and it’s now claimed either he or Martin Odegaard could occupy a false nine position. As we know, it’s a system Pep Guardiola used last season and something Mikel Arteta no doubt is highly read up on.
TBR’s View: Arsenal need a striker, not Fabio Vieira as a false nine
It’s a fair enough assumption to make, this. Arsenal save some money in the market and then go and play someone like Vieira or Odegaard until he comes back.
The big problem really is that if it doesn’t work, then Arsenal are out of the title race altogether. With that, Mikel Arteta has a big decision to make really.
Eddie Nketiah isn’t the answer although he will want to show he can be. In a nutshell, the Gunners need to sign a striker, even if it’s on a short-term deal.
