Report: Arsenal could now completely change January transfer window plans

Arsenal were one of the busiest clubs this summer but they could be about to change their January transfer window plans already.

The Gunners had been trying to sign a new central midfielder on deadline say as their focus shifted from a new winger following the sale of Nicolas Pepe. Injuries to Mo Elneny and Thomas Partey saw the Gunners try to sign Douglas Luiz form Aston Villa. Of course, that move came to nothing.

And while the club still didn’t replace Nicolas Pepe, a report from Football London has suggested the emergence of Marquinhos could mean the Gunners shelve those plans completely. The Brazilian youngster has been impressing off the field and in training at London Colney, and he delivered on the pitch too against Zurich last night.

It’s believed within the club that if the Brazilian continues to impress, then they might already have their Pepe replacement in house. That would, of course, save Arsenal a whole heap of money in January.

Arsenal were thought to be keen on signing Pedro Neto from Wolves before the deadline passed, only for their focus to switch to Luiz late in the day.

TBR’s View: Marquinhos Looks The Real Deal

Some young players just seem to have it and Marquinhos already looks like the part for Arsenal. His performance last night was that of a seasoned pro and the Gunners fans have every reason to be excited by him.

Of course, he has a long way to go in his development still. But given what he’s shown so far, it’s little wonder Arsenal are considering just sticking with him and not going for another wide player.

January is always a tricky window to negotiate anyway so if Marquinhos can keep doing the business, then the Gunners have got a huge bonus on their hands.
