Arsenal contract news: Fans react to hearing which deal Edu could extend this summer

A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to comment on reports from Football London concerning the Gunners’ contract plans for Mohamed Elneny.

Elneny has had an interesting time over the last couple of years. He was out on loan when Mikel Arteta was first appointed.

Fans may have assumed that he would be offloaded upon his return to North London. But the Egyptian forced his way back into the fold and went on to play a fairly important role in Arteta’s squad.

The Gunners now face a crucial decision with the 28-year-old. As noted by Football London, his contract expires next summer.

Talks had reportedly started in April over a new deal. But it was suggested that they stalled at some stage.

However, Football London reports that discussions are set continue ahead of the new campaign.

And those reports have divided some of the fans on social media. Some believe that handing him a new contract makes a lot of sense.

Elneny – who earns £50,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – looks to be an incredibly popular member of the squad. And he does not appear to cause any issues when he is not a first-choice option.

Having said that, some do not believe that a new deal is a step in the right direction. He turns 29 next month.

And he has struggled to hold down a spot in the Arsenal side which has just endured one of its most frustrating campaigns in recent memory.
