When it was first announced that Edu Gaspar would be leaving Arsenal, fans in north London feared the worst.
Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar appeared to have such a harmonious relationship at Arsenal, and the club’s recruitment was generally going well.
However, Edu decided to quit Arsenal for one reason or another, and the Gunners have now welcomed new sporting director Andrea Berta to the club.
And in his first summer at the Emirates Stadium, Berta has the opportunity to fix a mistake that Edu made back in 2023.
Arsenal were on the hunt for attacking talent at the time, and despite the club’s interest in Mohammed Kudus, he ended up joining their London rivals West Ham United.
Andrea Berta can fix Edu’s mistake by signing Mohammed Kudus for Arsenal
Arsenal wanted Kudus but a deal never came to fruition, which has to be seen as a mistake on Edu’s part.
Almost ever since Kudus began impressing at West Ham, Arsenal have continued to be linked with a move for the Ghana international.

Back in January, West Ham wanted £80m for Kudus, almost double the fee they paid to Ajax in 2023.
However, given that the attacker is not interested in joining the Saudi Pro League this summer, West Ham now want around £50m for Kudus — a price tag that should be seriously appealing to Arsenal.
Berta is in the market for a winger to elevate Arsenal’s attack, and Kudus would do exactly that.
At 24-years-old, Kudus still has a lot of time to improve under Arteta’s stewardship as well, the kind of maverick that Arsenal have been lacking at times.
Jarrod Bowen has already explained why Arsenal should want Mohammed Kudus
That being said, West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen has perhaps already explained why Arsenal should be chasing a deal for Kudus to follow in Declan Rice’s footsteps from West Ham.
Bowen would obviously be loath to see Kudus leave the club, but his endorsement of his fellow winger should only strengthen Arsenal’s interest.
Speaking after West Ham’s 2-0 win at Manchester United earlier this year, Bowen praised Kudus’ work-rate, something which would be very welcome at Arsenal.
Crediting his goal to Kudus somewhat, Bowen said: “It was Mo pressuring, winning the ball back, which he does so well. He works so hard to win the ball back.”
And if that wasn’t enough, Liverpool manager Arne Slot called Kudus ‘incredible’ recently as well.
The complete package for Arsenal and given that Nico Williams might be difficult to sign, Berta should turn to a bargain deal for Kudus instead.
