Arsenal boost as £300k-a-week star says he is open to leaving current club, Gunners reportedly keen

Raheem Sterling has been quoted by BBC Sport as saying he is open to leaving Manchester City for more game time – a potential Arsenal boost.

Sterling, 26, has been in and out of the Manchester City side – with the rise of Phil Foden, and the addition of Jack Grealish, hampering his game time.

Indeed, the 71-time England international has only started two of seven Premier League games this season. In 10 games, he has just one goal.

The Euro 2020 finalist was a name being linked with numerous clubs in the summer. The Daily Star said this month that Mikel Arteta is interested.

So, the £300,000-a-week (Spotrac) star’s comments will be a boost for the Gunners in their pursuit of the ex-Liverpool man.

However, Sterling does also mention that he dreams of playing abroad at some point. Next summer could be a crucial point in his career.

“If there was the opportunity to go somewhere else, I would be open to it. At this moment in time, football is the most important thing to me.

“I have always had something that maybe one day I would love to play abroad and see how I meet that challenge,” Sterling said.

Sterling on future: Arsenal must make move for Manchester City star

Arsenal have the cash to bring Sterling to North London. Yes, he is on enormous wages and he could cost north of £50million.

The England ace has a contract at Manchester City until the summer of 2023. That could play into Arsenal’s hands.

The Gunners are keen, Sterling open to going and his contract could reduce his price tag. Everything seems to be pointing towards a move.

What could prove decisive, is where Arsenal finish in the Premier League table this season – and if they can qualify for European football this term.
