Arsenal fans react on Twitter to Raheem Sterling interest reports
A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to comment on reports from over the weekend claiming that Mikel Arteta has made Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling a top priority for the summer transfer window.
What’s the story?
Arteta is monitoring Sterling with the forward yet to agree a new contract with the Cityzens. His current terms are set to expire at the end of next season.
The Daily Star reports that talks with City are moving slowly. But Sterling is looking for an increase on his £300,000-a-week wages. He is seeking an increase of £50,000-a-week.
However, City are reluctant to pay. The 26-year-old has played more of a peripheral role since the start of the season.
And that appears to have caught Arteta’s attention. The report claims that the Arsenal boss had an excellent relationship with the forward while he was one of Pep Guardiola’s assistants.
And Sterling is now on the Gunners’ wishlist as one of their top targets for the upcoming summer window.
Of course, that window is some time away. And much can change between now and the end of the season.
But it would appear that plenty of Arsenal fans would be very happy if they ended up signing Sterling.
He is yet to show his best form this term. But he was outstanding for England at Euro 2020. And he has previously been a devastating attacking player for City.
‘What a signing it would be’: Arsenal fans react to Raheem Sterling reports
Understandably, plenty have their doubts about the likelihood of a move. He will not come cheap, even with one year left on his deal.
But several fans have implored Arsenal to do all they can to bring him to the Emirates. They believe that it would be a real statement of intent.
With that in mind, here is how some of the Arsenal fans have reacted to the reports…

What a signing it would be, Sterling is a very good and experienced player and would fit perfectly in the left side

Looking at his wages alone shows that we can’t afford him. I’d like to see him at the Emirates though.
