'Arsenal are on the player': Gunners lining up swoop for another 'phenomenal' striker besides Jesus - journalist
Arsenal have been heavily linked with Victor Osimhen in recent months.
Now, Sky Sport journalist Luca Marchetti has spoken to Radio Marte (via Area Napoli) about the Gunners’ interest in the Nigeria international.
Arsenal will most likely bolster their attacking ranks in the summer transfer window.
The Gunners tried to sign a new striker in January, and Dusan Vlahovic was reportedly a top target.
However, not only did Arsenal fail to land a new centre-forward in the window, but they lost two.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left to join Barcelona, while Folarin Balogun joined Middlebrough on loan.
And Arsenal’s two remaining strikers – Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah – are both out of contract in summer.
Back to Osimhen, reports in March claimed that Arsenal dreamt of signing the Napoli sharpshooter.
“I would never sell him”
But unsurprisingly, they are not ready to let him go on the cheap at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
In fact, reports have suggested that they want £84million for the 23-year-old.
Here is what Marchetti has said about Arsenal’s apparent interest in Osimhen.
“Arsenal are on the player, but they have to wait for the Champions League to hit to make the investment more bearable.
Offers of €70million, De Laurentiis would not even take them into consideration and would not sit down to negotiate.”
Marchetti also gave his opinion, namely that Napoli shouldn’t sell Osimhen full stop.
“I would never sell him in life, if I want to continue to follow the growth process that would lead me to be competitive in terms of the league,” he continued.
“Yesterday, however, De Laurentiis made it a matter of accounts, of money: Napoli are out of the league.
“Over €200million and, as wages, he spends more than Milan.
“The Nigerian is among the most attractive players on the market. The intermediaries do their job.”
Signing Osimhen would excite a lot of Arsenal supporters.
He has been described as a ‘phenomenal‘ striker. And he has an impressive record over his career.
Osimhen has been in sensational form this term, registering 16 goals and five assists from 28 Partenopei games.
The former Lyon star has also scored four goals for Nigeria in World Cup qualifying.
