According to Alex Crook, Arsenal are the favourites to sign Lucas Paqueta if he leaves Olympique Lyon this summer.

The Gunners have had a fairly eventful transfer window so far. Fabio Vieira, Marquinhos and Matt Turner were brought in, before Edu and Mikel Arteta sealed the deal to sign Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City.

That’s four new players already, but it doesn’t look like Arsenal are stopping at just that. The Gunners are still said to be on the lookout for a new central midfielder, a wide player and also a left-sided defender.

Among all the names linked with a move to the Emirates, Paqueta has made the most noise over the last few days, and Crook has delivered his verdict on the rumours.

Over the last few months, it’s Newcastle who have been heavily linked with a move for Paqueta, who is good friends with Bruno Guimaraes, However, Arsenal have been rumoured the most over the last few days.

Crook was asked if there’s any truth in all the rumours, and the journalist revealed that the Gunners are the most likely side to sign him this summer – if he leaves Lyon.

He told GiveMeSport: “I think speaking to people in South America, they [Arsenal] are the favourites for Paquetá if he leaves, which I think is still a fairly big if.

“I think he’s higher up on their list of targets than Milinković-Savić.”

Arsenal fans will love Paqueta’s crazy celebrations

Since Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang left Arsenal in February, no Arsenal player boasts of an eye-catching celebration.

Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe just do the knee slide, while Eddie Nketiah and new boy Gabriel Jesus usually lift their hand up towards their ear and gesture that they’re getting a phone call.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with either of those celebrations, but modern-day football fans, from time to time, would love to see something a bit more extravagant.

If Arsenal sign ‘world star‘ Paqueta this summer, crazy celebrations will be a guarantee almost every time he scores. The Brazilian loves his dancing and has often showed off his moves at Lyon since he joined them from Milan back in 2020.
