Arsenal actually asked about signing ‘excellent’ player on transfer deadline day

Raheem Sterling’s move to Arsenal captured most of the headlines on transfer deadline day, but there’s another deal the Gunners did that deserves attention.

Indeed, Arsenal also brought Neto in from Bournemouth, but before they signed the Brazilian, the Gunners also looked at some other options.

Joan Garcia was strongly linked to Arsenal, while Wigan’s Sam Tickle was considered by the Gunners.

However, according to The Athletic, Arsenal did try to revisit another old target on deadline day.

Arsenal asked about Daniel Bentley on deadline day

According to The Athletic, Arsenal asked about signing Daniel Bentley from Wolves on transfer deadline day.

The ‘excellent’ goalkeeper was linked with Arsenal earlier this summer, and the Gunners tried to reignite this deal towards the end of the window.

Arsenal were ultimately unsuccessful in their pursuit of Bentley, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Neto a better signing than Dan Bentley

Arsenal went for Bentley towards the end of the transfer window, but it has to be said that Neto is the better signing here.

Neto has a lot more experience at the top level, and he’s also played this role for a big club before.

Neto was at Barcelona and Juventus before joining Bournemouth, and he knows what it takes to be a number two at an elite club.

The Arsenal loanee has also shown in recent years that he can cut it at Premier League level, while Bentley really isn’t proven in the top league.

Of course, David Raya will likely start every game for Arsenal this season, but if the Spaniard were to go down with an injury, Neto wouldn’t be a bad replacement by any stretch.

The Gunners have done a good job in replacing Aaron Ramsdale in the short-term, and perhaps a move for Joan Garcia on a permanent deal could be on the cards again next summer.
