Liverpool have now announced the signing of Federico Chiesa in a £10m move from Juventus.
TBR Football understand that Chiesa ignored a late swoop from Tottenham to join Liverpool – with the Italy international penning a contract which runs until July 2028 at Anfield.
The deal is so cheap due to the fact the Italian only had 11 months remaining on his contract in Turin, although the forward’s value has also dropped significantly from the £54m Juventus spent on him in 2020 due to a series of niggling injuries.
Now – however – Federico Chiesa could overcome these issues at Liverpool thanks to a decision from Arne Slot…
What Arne Slot has done at Liverpool, it should help Federico Chiesa
Upon his arrival at Anfield, Slot decided to bring Ruben Peeters with him from Feyenoord to Merseyside.
A story from The Athletic claims that the Dutchman actually insisted on Liverpool hiring the 32-year-old, and as it turned out, the man with a master’s degree in sports sciences was the 45-year-old’s first confirmed staff member.
Peeters ensured Feyenoord rarely suffered any injuries, with The Athletic stating that the Eredivisie outfit’s player availability levels were above 90% for three seasons running, with Peeters encouraging Slot to focus on periodisation in Rotterdam – providing a brief every single morning on how long the group should train for, and how far each player should be pushed.
This careful management should help Chiesa return to the scintillating £54m forward he was four years ago.

The man from Genova suffered his first – and only – major injury back in January 2022 after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, but despite recovering from that setback, he has still missed 27 games due to 12 separate, smaller injuries since his return, as Transfermarkt shows.
While that is obviously a concern for Chiesa, it also suggests Juventus did not manage the 26-year-old properly upon his return to action, although it sounds as if Peeters will place a lot more emphasis on making sure the Italian’s body is not pushed beyond its limits at Liverpool.
Worth the gamble nonetheless
Even if Chiesa fails to return to the electric forward who convinced Juventus to spend £54m on his signature back in 2020, this deal is certainly worth doing for Liverpool.

A sum of just £10m is pocket change for top clubs in modern football.
In fact, Liverpool have almost paid the entirety of this fee thanks to a sell-on clause negotiated when Dominic Solanke was sold to Bournemouth in 2019, with the Reds making around £9m this summer after Tottenham spent £65m on the England international.
Therefore, even if this deal doesn’t work out for Liverpool, the Merseysiders should still be able to make most of that £10m fee back – or even profit.
