'Are you even surprised?': Some Arsenal fans react to latest display from 26-year-old Arteta let go of

A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to comment on the display of Matt Macey after the goalkeeper played his part in the Gunners’ pre-season defeat on Tuesday.

Mikel Arteta’s men lost 2-1 to Hibernian at Easter Road. The Scottish Premiership side scored in either half to take a 2-0 lead.

Emile Smith Rowe got a goal back after the break. By that time, Macey had already been replaced between the sticks for Hibs.

Of course, the most notable incident involving the goalkeepers on show came during the first-half when Arthur Okonkwo missed the ball when trying to make a clearance. The home side took full advantage and scored the opener.

What probably did not help Okonkwo was that the goalkeeper at the other end of the pitch was given the green light to leave Arsenal at the start of the year.

Of course, Okonkwo is going to bounce back. He looks to be an amazing talent. And pre-season is the best time to make a major mistake.

But plenty of Arsenal fans also felt compelled to praise Macey. They were impressed by what they saw from the 26-year-old, who spent around eight years with the Gunners.

In that time, he only made a couple of competitive appearances.

Obviously, it looked to be best for all concerned for Macey to leave in January.

But given the year Emi Martinez has gone on to enjoy since leaving the Emirates, Arsenal fans found it funny that another goalkeeper has gone on to impress against them – particularly at a time when the likes of Bernd Leno and Alex Runarsson have both been linked with a move away.
