Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte has claimed that Cristian Romero does not fear anyone following his altercation with Marc Cucurella against Chelsea last weekend.

Romero has been a fan favourite ever since he joined Spurs. His quality on the pitch is incredible, but what makes supporters love him more is how fearless he is – even when the ball is not in play.

Conte and Thomas Tuchel’s bust-up at the end of the London derby last weekend was the biggest news of the night, but Romero wasn’t far away from the headlines himself.

At the very end of the game, just before Harry Kane equalised, the Argentine pulled Cucurella down by grabbing his hair. The VAR decided he did nothing wrong, but Conte has claimed that the Argentine needs to understand situations like those better.

Speaking about the 24-year-old, Conte told Football London: “About Cristian, I speak a lot with him.

“For sure, he’s a player who’s really strong physically. He has no fear of anyone but for sure he has to be always really focused to understand the situation, to try to always be better, to improve the situations he needs to improve.

“But I speak a lot with him, I speak a lot with my players about being strong – but always in a good way.”

Romero really is fearless and he’s not intimidated by anyone or anything on the football pitch.

The 24-year-old is arguably Tottenham’s best defender. He has been excellent for Spurs since he joined them last summer, but he does have the tendency to lose his cool every now and then.

What Romero did against Cucurella could’ve easily cost him. He could’ve been sent off and that would’ve stopped Tottenham from picking up a point at Stamford Bridge.

That’s one side of the game Romero needs to work on, and Conte will make sure he will in the coming weeks and months.
