‘A tirade of expletives’: Conte spotted unleashing his full fury at two Tottenham players v Bournemouth

Tottenham might have fought back and won against Bournemouth yesterday, but Antonio Conte was not a happy man for much of the game.

Conte had seen his side go two down once again. It looked like being another nightmare day at the office in all honesty.

However, the Italian made some changes and saw his side fight back from the brink. It could be a defining moment in Tottenham’s season, ahead of a crucial clash with Marseille this week.

However, if Tottenham are to enjoy success under Conte, their players need to start listening. Pointed out by The Athletic’s Tim Spiers, Conte was seen absolutely berating Ryan Sessegnon and Oliver Skipp.

“Despite the scoreline and the hopelessness of Spurs’ performance — epitomised by Emerson Royal’s volley that lands in the car park behind the stadium — the only time Conte properly loses control of his senses is when Son Heung-min lines up a free kick to the left of the box,” Spiers writes for The Athletic.

“Conte wants Sessegnon and Oliver Skipp to run either side of Son and offer him an option. He points left and right to convey this, but both players run to the left. It’s laughable, but Conte doesn’t laugh. He unleashes a tirade of expletives.”

And it’s these small details that will make or break Tottenham under Conte.

Tottenham players need to listen to Antonio Conte

We see a lot of what Conte does on a weekly basis. He is so animated on the touchline that Spurs themselves even run a weekly ‘Conte Cam’ segment on their socials.

However, there is a serious element to Conte’s reactions. He simply wants his Spurs players to follow his instruction. In moments like the free-kick above, Conte is looking for more than just his players standing around. It’s clearly something he works on and talks about, and it clearly angers him when it’s not executed.

The problem here is that these small details add up. If three or four moments happen in each game like this, then Conte can point the finger at his side not doing what he wants. And the last thing Spurs’ players want is to be upsetting the boss.

Ultimately, Spurs need to follow Conte’s lead. This is a winning manager, with a proven record. Failure to heed instructions will only frustrate Conte and at the end of the day, see him walk away as yet another trophyless Tottenham coach.
