Anthony Elanga has been speaking about his old Manchester United teammate Angel Gomes – and spoke very highly of the midfielder.
The Nottingham Forest No.21 made the comments when chatting to Rising Ballers.
So, what did Anthony Elanga say about his fellow Manchester United academy graduate Angel Gomes? Let’s take a look…
Anthony Elanga hails Angel Gomes
Well, the England U21 international left Manchester United for Lille on a free transfer back in August 2020 after running down his contract at Old Trafford – despite interest from Arsenal too.
Gomes has since blossomed into a real midfield general under Paulo Fonseca in France, shining across several positions as he dominates in a No.6 role – as well as higher up the pitch.
Elanga – who left Manchester United himself back in July when sealing a £15m move to Nottingham Forest – has now named the Lille No.8 as his most underrated teammate.
The Sweden international said: “He’s honestly so good. I feel like people watched him in the U21 Euros that England won, he showed his qualities as a number six, eight and ten – he’s amazing.”

Gomes has delivered another impressive campaign for Lille so far this season, scoring two goals while also providing seven assists in 35 appearances across all competitions.
Why Angel Gomes left Manchester United
In fairness to Manchester United, it was not like the Red Devils actively got rid of Gomes.
According to Sky Sports, Manchester United had a new contract on the table for the 23-year-old, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and others at Old Trafford hoping it would be signed.

However, Sky Sports state that the “numbers did not add up” for Gomes, and he decided to pursue a new challenge in his career by moving to France.
The decision has truly paid off for the Londoner, although Manchester United will be kicking themselves to have lost such a classy midfielder for nothing – one who plays the game similarly to Kobbie Mainoo.
