The Daily Mail have claimed that Arsenal are looking to sign out-of-contract Manchester United attacker Angel Gomes this summer, despite Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s desperation to keep the teenage star.

Gomes, 19, is out of contract in June and it is believed Arsenal are one of a number of clubs interested in landing the six-time England Under-20 international – even though Arsenal would be required to pay a big compensation fee.

Manchester United want to resolve a deal with Gomes before next week – setting a deadline of May 21. Gomes has played six times for United this season, and has 10 appearances in total for his boyhood club.

The London-born star has plenty of suitors. Arsenal are one, as are Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan – who would only have to pay a nominal fee given they are overseas clubs. The Mirror claim Chelsea are confident of a deal.

Back in 2015 when Gomes was aged just 14, former Manchester United star Nani described Gomes as Old Trafford’s next star.

TBR’s view – Gomes could be the Premier League’s next star

But his next decision is crucial. Gomes has got to the point where he needs Premier League, or top-tier game time. A move to the likes of Inter or Barcelona would surely diminish those chances – but Dortmund could open a door for the English teen.

Much like Jadon Sancho, Gomes could shine in Germany. But remaining in England would also give Gomes plenty of chances. Indeed, Arsenal have handed the likes of Bukayo Saka, Reiss Nelson, Joe Willock and more a chance this season.

Chelsea and Frank Lampard have also brought through some young players, while Solskjaer has handed Gomes himself six outings this season. Despite huge interest in his services, surely staying at United is Gomes’ best option.
