Tottenham Hotspur took part in their first open pre-season friendly of the summer on Wednesday night.

Following Spurs’ behind-closed-doors 7-2 win over Cambridge United, the Lilywhites ran out 5-1 winners over Hearts in Edinburgh.

Tottenham will have one more friendly in the UK – against Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road – before embarking on their tour of Japan and South Korea.

Postecoglou, speaking to the press after the Hearts match, spoke about a number of Spurs players whose fitness situation is uncertain ahead of the tour.

Tottenham have a few players working their way back from injuries picked up towards the latter stages of last season.

Pape Matar Sarr and Ben Davies ‘should be okay’ for Tottenham tour

Postecoglou believes Pape Matar Sarr and Ben Davies “should be okay” to join the squad, but remained coy over the fitness of Richarlison and Fraser Forster.

“Pape and Ben should be okay for the tour in terms of participating,” the Tottenham boss told the club website.

“Richy’s probably a little bit behind them, and Fraser’s probably a little behind them as well.”

Sarr going from strength to strength at Tottenham

It’ll be especially exciting to see Sarr in action for Spurs in pre-season after the year he has had.

The 21-year-old is, in the words of The Athletic’s Jack Pitt-Brooke, ‘one of the best young players in the world in his position’.

Sarr joined Tottenham to much fanfare in 2021, with some directors congratulating Spurs for signing such a wonderful talent.

He spent the 2021/22 campaign on loan at Metz before being eased into the Tottenham first-team fold in 2022/23.

And then, last season, Sarr burst onto the scene as a regular starter. There should be much more to come from the midfielder.
