'Wow': Journalist says other clubs have congratulated Tottenham on signing truly 'big talent'
The Athletic’s Jack Pitt-Brooke has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur were congratulated for signing Pape Matar Sarr last year.
The journalist, speaking on the Last Word on Spurs YouTube channel, spoke about what Tottenham have in store for the youngster next season.
Spurs brought Sarr to N17 from French outfit Metz in August last year, paying a reported £14.6m plus add-ons.
The 19-year-old spent the 2021-22 campaign on loan at Metz, where he made 34 appearances.
It was a difficult campaign for the Maroons, who suffered relegation from Ligue 1.
However, Sarr’s efforts late on in the campaign helped the club take their survival battle to the final day.
Sarr was also part of the Senegal squad that won the Africa Cup of Nations, and helped them reach the 2022 World Cup.
Spurs boss Antonio Conte has had a good look at the player in pre-season, taking him on their tour of South Korea.
“One of the best young players in the world in his position”
Pitt-Brooke says Tottenham rate Sarr highly – and clearly, they’re not the only club to do so.
And in terms of next season, the journalist feels Tottenham will send Sarr out on loan to develop further.
“Sarr, I think it will be another year on loan I think,” said Pitt-Brooke.
“He’s still very young, I don’t think his last season at Metz was as good as his first season.
“He’s a big talent, he’s one of the best young players in the world in his position.
“I know for a fact that when Tottenham signed him they had other heads of recruitment at other clubs ringing them up saying ‘wow, you did well to get Sarr, he’s someone we wanted for a while’.
“So the club clearly think highly of Sarr, I would say another loan for him.”
