Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou issued an angry response after he was told that his side played good football against West Ham last night.

Spurs suffered their fourth defeat in five games yesterday. Goals from Jarrod Bowen and James Ward-Prowse sealed the three points for the Hammers, but many felt Tottenham deserved something because of how well they played. Postecoglou was having none of that.

Ange Postecoglou issues angry response after Tottenham’s defeat vs West Ham

Tottenham‘s style of football since Ange Postecoglou‘s arrival has been magnificent.

They are always on the front foot trying to attack, and they haven’t been afraid to play their game even against the bigger sides in the Premier League.

Spurs, once again, played the better football last night, but two costly errors at the back cost them the game. This isn’t the first time that has happened this season either.

Tottenham still get praised for the way they play, but Postecoglou was furious when that was mentioned in an interview after the game.

When Paul Miles said Tottenham played good football in the first half, Postecoglou stopped him and replied on SpursPlay: “We weren’t good, we have to get away from that. I don’t believe that. That’s part of the problem.

“Everyone’s saying we’re playing good football. Good football means you win games and I’m not here to play good football, I’m here to win. That’s been the clear message from day one to the players, that we play this style of football not to get pats on the back, we play this style of football to win games and bring success to this football club.

“You need to embrace that. It’s not easy, I’m not saying it’s easy, but that’s where we need to be.”

Perfect response from Postecoglou

Playing eye-catching football is all well and good, but if that doesn’t help you win games, what’s even the point?

Postecoglou was visibly upset with the result last night, and rightly so. Spurs have now picked up just one point out of a possible 15, and that’s simply not good enough.

Tottenham have now dropped out of the top four in the Premier League table, and if they don’t start winning games, they will fall behind other clubs.

It will be interesting to see how Postecoglou’s men will bounce back, but their next game is another hugely difficult test – against Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United.
