As the fallout over Celtic capitulation in Madrid starts to die down, the focus is slowly returning to domestic business.

Next up for Celtic is Aberdeen on Sunday in the SPFL where Brendan Rodgers will be determined to put right that European wrong against Barry Robson’s side.

Another player who will be desperate to show what he can do after being dropped against Atletico is David Turnbull.

The midfielder was left out of the starting lineup and will probably start against The Dons. Another good performance by the 24-year-old is likely to speed up those impending contract talks.

But if Celtic don’t manage to get a deal done, then Andy Walker believes clubs in England will be queueing up to sign Turnbull.

Walker said [The Go Radio Football Show], “I like Turnbull. I think it’s really interesting that his contract is up at the end of the year. I hope he can, if he wants to, stay in Scottish football, if he’s still wants to take part in Champions League games.

“But I understand that he’ll be an attractive guy for some of the clubs down in England who’ve got a bit of money to spend.

“I’m sure he’ll have options. What you’ve seen from him is something a bit different for Celtic. A guy that can score from outside the box and that has been priceless in the last couple of games.”

Turnbull has been in good goalscoring form for Celtic this season. His five goals from midfield have been crucial in helping Celtic maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

In 129 appearances for the club, Turnbull has netted in 29 of those and created 23. So as Walker says, he clearly does have something to offer Celtic. [Transfermarkt]

Whether that’s enough to warrant a new deal and get him in ahead of the likes of Reo Hatate and Paulo Bernardo is another thing entirely.
