Andrea Radrizzani liked tweet saying Leeds now want Cody Gakpo
Andrea Radrizzani has liked a tweet reporting that Leeds United are one of the sides interested in a move for Cody Gakpo in the final hours of the summer transfer window.
The next few hours could have a huge say in how Leeds’ season plays out. Certainly, for many of the Elland Road faithful, it appears to be absolutely imperative that the Whites sign another forward.
Leeds look light in the final third. Patrick Bamford spent the large majority of last season out with injury. And he has already been sidelined once this term.
Meanwhile, Rodrigo suffered a shoulder injury during Tuesday’s draw with Everton. And Joe Gelhardt had a knock earlier in the campaign.
There would be a lot of anger directed at the board if Leeds fail to sign anyone else. At the very least, it would be a major gamble.
Several names have been linked. And perhaps Radrizzani has provided a clue as to which player he would like.
Telegraph journalist Jason Burt reported on Tuesday evening that Leeds and Everton had joined Southampton in the race to sign Cody Gakpo.
Leeds are no strangers to being linked with Gakpo. Reports earlier this summer claimed that the Whites were ready to make a big bid for the £34 million-rated 23-year-old.
But interestingly, Radrizzani has liked a tweet relaying the information that Leeds want Gakpo…
Radrizzani liked Gakpo tweet
Of course, Radrizzani could have liked the tweet by accident. It would not be a smart move to like it if Leeds are unlikely to sign anyone else in this window.
But the Leeds hierarchy have not got the best record when it comes to alleviating supporter concerns. Angus Kinnear’s programme notes before the game on Tuesday angered many as he referred to Bamford and Rodrigo as ‘two proven international number nines‘.
Bamford has one cap for England and has been desperately unlucky with injury. And Rodrigo has not been in the Spain squad for nearly a year. And suggesting that he is a natural number nine is something of a stretch.
They are two outstanding players. But for various reasons, Leeds need more.
Radrizzani meanwhile, made an unwise remark concerning Adam Forshaw last season when the fans were crying out for another central midfielder.
Leeds’ board have done some brilliant business this summer. But the window will end on a sour note if they do not sign anyone else.
