Andre Onana drops possible hint over Arsenal switch
Arsenal remain interested in Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana – and he might have just dropped a hint over where his future lies.
The player has been linked with a move to the Gunners and some reports have suggested a deal is imminent.
An appeal over a suspension will be heard on Wednesday and Arsenal will monitor with intrigue.
Onana could cost as little as £7 million this summer, with just a single year remaining on his deal.
The stopper was instrumental as Ajax reached the Champions League semi-final during the 2018/19 campaign.
He was part of the team that lost to Tottenham to miss out on a place in the final.
Onana might have dropped a hint he is set to sign for Arsenal by adding a coach to his Twitter.
Furthermore, it’s not just any employee he’s linked with on social media, it’s the goalkeeping coach, Inaki Cana.
The 25-year-old is a Cameroon international and a fresh start might be ideal for the player.
It’s feasible that Onana’s ban gets overturned and that would help Arsenal.
The uncompromising stopper has made 204 appearances for the Dutch giants; making 83 clean sheets during his time in Amsterdam.
Of course, Cana and Onana might know each other anyway but it could be a small hint.
Onana to Arsenal: Game-changing signing on the cards for Gunners
This could be a sound piece of business for Arsenal who are in desperate need of reinforcements.
The Gunners could lose Bernd Leno this summer and a goalkeeper will need to be sought by the club.
If anything Onana would provide Mikel Arteta’s ranks with an upgrade – if he can get back to his best at the Emirates Stadium.
The man with 18 caps for his country has superb distribution skills and commands his box with aplomb.
Arsenal will be desperate to get back into Europe next season. Signing Onana might just help them achieve that goal.
