‘Amazing week’… BBC pundit has been blown away by the impact of £24m Arsenal player lately

It’s certainly been a strong week or so for Mikel Arteta and his Arsenal side as they try to strengthen their title chances.

Although Manchester City have a game in hand, three consecutive wins have clawed Arteta’s team level on points with Pep Guardiola’s side.

Moreover, a true ‘six-pointer’ against Liverpool has also massively reduced the gap to the league leaders.

It’s all looking a lot more promising from an Arsenal perspective.

And whilst players like Jorginho and Gabriel Martinelli are deservedly getting the plaudits right now, there have been some understated contributions.

Ben White is one, a player who is seemingly still underestimated by fans across the Premier League.

However, it was the strong week of Arsenal’s Gabriel Magalhaes that has stood out to pundit Garth Crooks.

Crooks included Gabriel in his Team of the Week for the BBC and absolutely loved the defender’s commitment of late.

The pundit rightfully attributed no blame towards the Brazilian for his own goal against Liverpool, a problem that was sourced elsewhere.

Garth Crooks amazed by Gabriel Magalhaes’ strong week for Arsenal

Discussing Gabriel’s dependable form, Crooks said: “This has been an amazing week for Arsenal and in particular Gabriel.

“The defender very much wears his heart on his sleeve and is totally committed to the cause.

“Against Nottingham Forest he was in the thick of it and played his part in a resolute performance by the Gunners.

“However, it was his display in defence against Liverpool that really impressed.

“He never gave Diogo Jota a kick, who looked like he missed the physical presence of Darwin Nunez.

“Meanwhile, Gabriel’s partnership with William Saliba reduced Liverpool’s chances to a minimum.”

Of course, this isn’t the first strong week Gabriel has had for Arsenal this season.

The campaign did start oddly with the Brazilian sometimes on the bench – perhaps the result of some transfer speculation.

But Gabriel’s importance is now so clear for all to see.

The £24m-deal that brought the defender to the club now looks something of a bargain, and he’s still not hit his peak at 26-years-old.

All that being said, a young Arsenal striker out on loan right now is also progressing incredibly well
