'Amazing': Mauricio Pochettino says 23-year-old would be absolutely brilliant in the same team as Tottenham's Harry Kane

Mauricio Pochettino has told the Athletic that Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe would be absolutely brilliant in the same team as Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane

The former Spurs boss has managed both players during his time in north London and with French giants PSG.

Kane managed to open his World Cup account on Sunday as England thrashed Senegal 3-0 in the last-16. The 29-year-old has also provided three assists in Qatar, while Mbappe has already scored five goals and registered two assists.

Mbappe and Kane are set to meet in a huge quarter-finals clash on Saturday evening and Pochettino has been speaking about the pair ahead of the game.

Pochettino on Mbappe and Kane

Pochettino feels a Kane and Mbappe link-up would be similar to the partnership the Spurs star has built with Heung-Min Son over the years.

“This is something that unites Harry and Kylian. They really love the game,” he told the Athletic

“Sometimes, big players love playing football but they don’t love the game itself. But these two genuinely love the game itself. They love to talk about football, they love to talk about tactics, they have brains that really understand football.

“And this is why I think it would be so good to see them playing together. They would be completely compatible. It could be similar to the bond that Harry has with Son Heung-min at Spurs. The connection would be amazing, and the two could share ideas about tactics and movements.”

Kane is known for his brilliant link-up play and elite passing ability – two attributes that would supplement Mbappe perfectly.

The 23-year-old has benefitted massively from playing alongside Olivier Giroud for France and Kane is definitely a level above the French striker.

Pochettino also hinted that he could try and sign Kane for his next club, but it remains to be seen whether he will manage Mbappe again.

It would certainly be a mouthwatering partnership but for now, the pair will be focusing on a massive World Cup clash on Saturday.
