‘Amazing’: Clive Allen shares what’s really impressed him about Richarlison lately

Tottenham forward Richarlison finally got among the goals last weekend as he hit a double against Newcastle United.

Richarlison has struggled for form and fitness since signing for Spurs but put in an impressive display to net twice against the Magpies.

For the Brazilian, the relief was obvious. Richarlison had done so well at Everton before moving to Spurs and the lack of goals was becoming a bit of a burden.

However, while the goals are a big part of his game, former Spurs legend Clive Allen believes it was the work-rate, coupled with the ability to then get forward as well, that really stood out.

Speaking to Tottenham’s official media channels, Allen was full of praise for Richarlison.

“Absolutely delighted. I think what we saw with him and what we have seen since he has been with us, he’s been getting into goalscoring positions but all of a sudden his work rate was second to none. He’s working back tirelessly, interceptions, tackles. And then what I found amazing was that when the ball and play built up, he was also getting in the dangerous positions in the opponent’s box, none more so than when he scored his goal,” Allen said.

Richarlison like a new signing for Tottenham

Any time you can get one of your big money signings finally producing the goods is a big moment for any team and manager.

There is no doubt Richarlison has struggled to make an impression since signing for Tottenham. The Brazilian has found life hard and the lack of goals has been a serious issue.

However, as Allen says here, something seemed to click with Richarlison last week. The work ethic was there and then importantly, he managed to get into goal scoring positions as well.

Hopefully, for Spurs fans anyway, this is the start of a big run of form for Richarlison. If he can keep on getting the goals, then it will very much feel like they’ve landed a new striker and he’ll feel like he’s finally earning that £90k-a-week wage packet.

And with it being around the transfer window, that will feel huge for Ange Postecoglou.
